The Honourable Justice William Young
Justice William Young graduated LLB (Hons) from the University of Canterbury and later gained a doctorate from Cambridge University. He joined the Christchurch firm of R A Young Hunter and Co in 1978, leaving in 1988 to practise as a barrister. He was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1991, to the High Court in 1997 and to the Court of Appeal in January 2004.
Justice Young became President of the Court of Appeal in February 2006. In June 2007, Justice Young was awarded the DCNZM (Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit) for services as President of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand.

The Honourable Justice Glazebrook
Justice Susan Glazebrook has an MA (1st Class Hons), an LLB (Hons) and a Dip. Bus (Finance) from the University of Auckland and a D.Phil from the University of Oxford in French legal history. Before being appointed to the High Court in June 2000, she was a partner in law firm Simpson Grierson and a member of various commercial boards and government advisory committees. She served as President of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association in 1998. She was appointed to the Court of Appeal in May 2002.
The Honourable Justice Hammond
Justice Grant Hammond graduated from the University of Auckland and the University of Illinois. He was a partner in the Hamilton law firm Tompkins Wake & Co. He was then a Professor of Law in American and Canadian Universities, and Chairman of a Canadian law reform agency before becoming Dean of Law at the University of Auckland. He was appointed a judge of the High Court in 1992 and to the Court of Appeal in January 2004.

Justice Robert Chambers graduated LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland in 1975 and in 1978 gained a doctorate from the University of Oxford. He commenced practice as a barrister in 1981 and was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1992. He was appointed to the High Court in 1999, and to the Court of Appeal in January 2004.
The Honourable Justice O’Regan
Justice Mark O’Regan graduated from the Victoria University of Wellington in 1977. He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court in 1977 and became a partner with the firm Chapman Tripp in 1984. He became a judge of the High Court in 2001 and a judge of the Court of Appeal in January 2004.
The Honourable Justice Robertson
Justice Bruce Robertson graduated from the University of Otago and the University of Virginia. He was a partner in the Dunedin law firm of Ross, Dowling, Marquet and Griffin prior to his appointment as a High Court judge in 1987. He was President of the New Zealand Law Commission from 2001 until his appointment as a member of the Court of Appeal in May 2005.
The Honourable Justice Arnold
Justice Terence Arnold graduated from Victoria University (BA and LLM) and New York University (LLM). He taught criminal law at Victoria University in Wellington as well as at several Canadian universities, including Dalhousie University and the University of Calgary. He was a partner of Chapman Tripp Sheffield Young between 1985 and 1994. He became a barrister sole in 1994 and shortly thereafter, was appointed Queen’s Counsel. He was Solicitor-General between 2000 and 2006. He was appointed a judge of the High Court and the Court of Appeal in May 2006.
The Honourable Justice Ellen France
Justice Ellen France has an LLB (Hons) from Auckland University and an LLM from Queen’s University, Ontario. Before being appointed to the High Court in April 2002 she was a senior legal adviser in the Department of Justice Law Reform Division; Crown Counsel and then Deputy Solicitor-General in the Crown Law Office. She was appointed to the Court of Appeal in June 2006.
The Honourable Justice Baragwanath
Justice David Baragwanath graduated LLB from the University of Auckland in 1964 and from Balliol College Oxford (Rhodes Scholar) with a BCL 1st class in 1966. He was a partner at Meredith Connell & Co Auckland from 1966 to 1977 and became a barrister sole in 1977. Justice Baragwanath was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1983 and the same year attended the University of Virginia to study Freedom of Information under the Fulbright Travel Award. In 1995 he was appointed a judge of the High Court and the following year became President of the New Zealand Law Commission, a position he held until 2001 when he returned to the High Court at Auckland.
