The Chief Justice is pleased to announce the appointments of two acting High Court judges. These appointments are made by the Governor-General acting on the advice of the Attorney-General.

The Hon Justice Cheryl Gwyn has been appointed an Acting Judge of the High Court from 24 August 2026 to 23 August 2027.

The Hon Justice Peter Churchman has been appointed an Acting Judge of the High Court from 21 September 2026 to 30 June 2027.

These appointments are made for the purpose of rehearing certain proceedings under the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011 which each judge previously presided over. Rehearings are required as a result of subsequent amendments to the Act, as well as remission to the High Court for rehearing following appeal decisions.
