The New Zealand Sign Language Act 2006 provides Sign Language (NZSL) is an official language of New Zealand and people whose first or preferred language is NZSL may use it in the courts (New Zealand Sign Language Act 2006, s 7). Court rules govern the use of NZSL in the courtroom.
